Russia to attack Ukraine after Beijing Olympics
Cold war fears in Eastern Europe resurfaced on Friday as Russian military forces conducted military drills near Ukraine and the US raised its warnings about the possibility of a Russian attack on Ukraine. Meanwhile, diplomats and government leaders seem to be struggling to restore dying talks in order to avert war.
America is vacating its embassy in Ukraine
The White House has said it still does not know whether
Russian President Vladimir Putin has decided to launch the attack, but said
Putin has gathered all the means necessary to do so. The US is preparing to
evacuate its embassy in Kiev and has asked Americans living in Ukraine to leave
the country within 48 hours.
Many analysts believe an attack is unlikely until the end of
the ongoing Winter Olympics in China on February 20. US President Joe Biden's
national security adviser Jake Sullivan has warned all American citizens living
in Ukraine to leave as soon as possible. He said Russian President Vladimir
Putin could order an attack on Ukraine at any time.
